Sirti

Technology and Life Sciences Innovation
Flourishing at Sirti

Campus Buildings are Hub of Entrepreneurial Breakthrough

A company that is creating a new, highly-effective wound dressing and another that is developing the first major breakthrough in computer keyboards in 25 years, are just two of the innovative entrepreneurs who have brought their ideas and startup businesses into the two Sirti buildings at Spokane’s University District Riverpoint Campus. Currently, there are thirteen high-tech and six life-sciences companies and organizations headquartered at Sirti and many more off-campus clients are getting a jumpstart with Sirti client acceleration services.

The Sirti Building on Riverpoint Boulevard was the first to be built thirteen years ago. Many of Spokane’s successful startups—such as GenPrime, ReliOn, MatriCal, Aegis Biosciences, Pondera Engineers and CSK Communications—established foundations there.

The Sirti Technology Center opened to companies in 2006. This mixed-use facility was built with a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration and matching local private funds. It features state-of-the-art wet labs as well as light manufacturing space and conventional office space. Currently, Signature Genomic Laboratories and ALK-Abello Source Materials are spearheading life-science innovation there while other companies are forging leading-edge development on a number of fronts.

Together, the buildings provide over 40,000 square feet of labs, manufacturing space, and offices as well as boardrooms, training facilities and conference rooms, all in an acceleration environment.

NEWS

May 1: MatriCal Inc., a Spokane company that designs and manufactures products used for scientific research, says its planned move to the Riverwalk Plaza here will allow it to keep its operations and corporate offices consolidated in one location. Margo Buckles, an administrator for MatriCal, says the new location, at 1007 E. Trent, is ideal, because at 17,000 square feet it’s bigger than other locations the company considered elsewhere in the University District, where it wants to stay. Currently, MatriCal is located in a 10,000-square-foot space in the Sirti Building, at 665 N. Riverpoint Blvd.
